How to Clean Mildew from Modern Leather Furniture

If you sudden notice mildew forming on your Modern Leather Furniture after returning home from a holiday, it can be worrying.

The fungus can sprout on leather if the conditions in the house are damp and the furniture is left locked up for a long period of time. This can end up damaging the leather. However, the good news is that you don’t have to discard your furniture. You can clean the mildew and make your furniture as good as new in no time at all.

You can make a solution at home to remove the mildew. Mix equal parts of rubbing alcohol and warm water in a clean spray bottle.

Now spray this solution on the mildew. Make sure that you don’t spray too much. Take a clean soft cloth and wipe the mildew gently. As the cloth turns dirty, replace it with a fresh one. If you need to apply more cleaning solution, do it.

Wipe the mildew completely from the leather surface ensuring that there is no trace left of it. Thereafter, leave the furniture to dry. Do not expose it to direct sunlight. If possible, switch on a fan to facilitate the drying.

Check the furniture carefully to see if there is still mildew on it. In case you notice some, mix one part saddle soap and two parts water.

Ensure that the soap forms a rich lather in the water. Dip a clean cloth into the soap solution, squeeze out excess water from it. Then wipe the furniture thoroughly using gentle circular motions. This will remove the remaining trace of mildew from the furniture.

Allow the leather furniture to air dry. After that apply some leather conditioner as directed by the manufacturer. This will make the leather shine and keep it soft and glossy.

Mildew is the bane of leather furniture, especially if you end up keeping your home locked up for an extended period of time. However, using rubbing alcohol and water can get rid of the mildew and prevent further damage to it.
